Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Confirms Black Adam DC Movie Role

After months, nay, years of speculation Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally confirmed he’ll be playing the villain Black Adam in an as-yet-unconfirmed movie based on the Shazam DC Comics property.

The wrestler-turned-actor tweeted an image of the baddie holding the superhero in a headlock with the caption: ”Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics”

Black Adam is the primary nemesis of Shazam, the red and gold costumed DC Comics hero, formerly known as Captain Marvel.

His origin story has been changed numerous times in the source comics, but Black Adam is said to have been granted special powers by ancient Egyptian gods blessing him with unlimited stamina, super-speed, incredible strength, vast wisdom, the power of flight, and unlimited courage.

Sounds pretty fitting for The Rock.

Variety is also reporting that ‘Goosebumps’ and ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ screenwriter Darren Lemke is on scripting duties, while Johnson’s regular collaborator Hiram Garcia will produce.

Johnson all but confirmed he would be appearing in a movie version of ‘Shazam’ in a recent interview with Total Film, but it was unclear whether he’d be playing the hero or the villain, but now we know for sure.

The film has still yet to be announced officially by Warner Bros., the parent company of DC Comics, and it’s still unclear whether Shazam will be the primary focus of the movie, or whether it will be about Black Adam himself.

It seems odd that we know who will play the bad guy, before we know who’ll be playing the good guy. Could he be more of the antihero in the film? Time will tell.

This announcement from The Rock comes hot on the heels of the news that DC recently put release dates on nine un-named comic book movies, so an official announcement from Warner Bros. can’t be far off.
