Guardians of the Galaxy And Avengers WILL Team Up, Say Cast (Exclusive)

Could the Guardians of the Galaxy team up with The Avengers? It’s the question we guarantee everyone will be asking once they’ve seen Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ when it blasts into cinemas this week.

Well, it sounds like Marvel has already started planning a crossover film. That’s according to Vin Diesel anyway, watch our exclusive video feature above to hear it from the man himself.

“Marvel will have a lot of options after this movie and one of those options will be integrating teams,” says the actor who plays tree beast Groot.

“I think there’s going to be huge fans of the Guardians and there are huge fans of the Avengers and I think the discussion has already been had [at Marvel]. I think the audience may demand something like that.”

Director James Gunn, who will return to write and direct 2017’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’, confirmed that he has been discussing a potential crossover with his Marvel bosses, but he was reticent to dish any details.

“We talked about all sorts of possibilities [for a crossover] and I kind of know what the basic plan is. It could always change at any minute.

“That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.”

Mixing just a few of the Guardians with a few of the ‘The Avengers’ on screen is a tantalizing prospect and could get around the tricky task of servicing all of the character arcs in one super-movie.

“It’s a delicate balance,” says Chris Pratt who plays Star Lord in the film, “If you go from five characters and you add another five characters, that’s ten characters. That can be very difficult.”

Although the story of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ takes place in a galaxy far, far away from here, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill is a human from Earth (or Terra, as they call it in the film). It’s the same Earth occupied by Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers et al.

How could you link the two together? Zoe Saldana thinks it will be Avengers reaching out to the Guardians and not the other way around.

“It was be awesome for the Avengers to seek help… professional help from the Guardians, ” suggests the actress who plays the green-skinned Gamora, “[The Guardians] have all been cybernetically altered, so they’re kind of super-bionic.”

However, should the two teams meet, Dave Bautista who plays Drax The Destroyer, predicts fireworks.

“Drax and Hulk would clash,” explains the former wrestler, “There would probably be some blows thrown.”

“I do not think the Avengers would get on well with the Guardians,” agrees James Gunn, “The Guardians are like a bunch of jerks, really. The Avengers, for all their problems, they’re all do-gooders. And our guys are not do-gooders.”

Having the Guardians joining the Avengers on screen in some capacity is a total no-brainer for Marvel. I think it’s safe to predict at least a cameo in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ which has been confirmed for a July 28, 2017 release.

The smart money would be on Thor, the only extra-terrestrial member of the Avengers, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is in cinemas 31 July. Watch the trailer below.
