Simon Cowell Gives His Review Of 'I Can't Sing': 'Painful At Times'

The critics may have been hailing I Can't Sing as hilarious, but Simon Cowell has given his review of the Harry Hill musical, calling it "painful at times".

The X Factor boss looked happy enough as he arrived at the London Palladium for the press night of the musical along with girlfriend Lauren Silverman, who was looking gorgeous just five weeks after giving birth.

I Can't Sing stars former EastEnders heartthrob Nigel Harman as Cowell with fellow X Factor judges Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow also being parodied in the show, as well as host Dermot O'Leary and returning judge Cheryl Cole.

Cowell, who is one of the £6m musical's financial backers, was very proud of his latest venture, telling press that it was like seeing his second baby born this year following the birth of his son Eric on February 14.

"It's exciting, and I never thought I'd be in this spot. I don't know much about the West End or musicals, but the very first time I saw the run through I really, really liked the show.

"And now I've seen the Twitter reaction to the previews and the people who've seen it really love it. So I'm thrilled."

But the music mogul did admit: "It's embarrassing, but I've got a thick skin", while the BBC report that he went further by saying it was "painful at times".

Louis Walsh was also keen to give his review, saying afterwards: "I thought it was fantastic. I'm going to come back again and again. It's funny, it's brilliant and it's got the X Factor."

Hill's musical has received rave reviews from critics with The Telegraph reporting that "the show is wildly eccentric and often wonderfully funny. It is also splendidly rude about Cowell himself".

The Express adds: "Harry Hill's knowing tease, directed by the ever-inventive Sean Foley and festooned with visual gags by designer Es Devlin, is smart, funny, foot-tapping and surprisingly hard-hitting beneath its cloak of reverence".
