'Simon Was Smiling From Ear To Ear': Nigel Harman Talks X Factor Musical I Can't Sing

Judging from some of his X Factor and Britain's Got Talent comments, it's safe to say that Simon Cowell is a hard man to please. But the music mogul is said to be happy with the new X Factor musical I Can't Sing according to the show's star Nigel Harman.

When we spoke to Nigel at the Olivier Award Nomination announcement,  he said that things were "really good" with the new show.

"We've had standing ovations every night. We're in previews so we still can't quite believe the reactions we're getting," he said.

Nigel is playing the part of Simon Cowell in the show, which has been written by Harry Hill with music and additional lyrics by Steve Brown.

According to Nigel, Simon came to see the show on Saturday and was "smiling from ear to ear" by the end.

We asked Nigel if he had been given any tips from the X Factor judge and creator himself, but Nigel said that he had only spoken to new dad Simon briefly about the role.

"He's got his hands full with Eric I imagine at the moment," Nigel said, although the pair did exchange a few words when Simon joined the I Can't Sing cast on stage at The London Palladium.

"It was one of those, 'let's have a quick chat in front of 2000 people'  kind of things," Nigel joked.

Nigel announced the 2014 Olivier Award Nominations at today's event. Having previously won the award for Shrek the Musical, the Downton Abbey and ex-Eastenders actor said he was honoured to be part of the Olivier Awards again as he "knows how special the awards are to some people."

"The Olivier awards are the pinnacle of what we do, so to be part of it two years ago and to win was extraordinary. To be asked back to read out nominations and to read some of my friend's names, people I know and people I admire... I'm really thrilled to be part of it and feel very lucky," he said.
