Price comparison site GoCompare has introduced a swathe of measures to attract more female staff – removing candidates’ names from CVs, and insisting on an all-female shortlist for its latest vacancy.

The company, known for its adverts featuring Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, has told headhunters to pull together a list of female-only candidates for its chief marketing officer role.

It has also introduced so-called blind CVs, where details deemed irrelevant to a person’s suitability for a job, such as name, age and school, are removed, and is now using software to scan the wording of its job adverts for any bias.

“These tools have helped increase the number of women applying for engineering roles,” said Ellen Sugden, who runs GoCompare’s diversity and inclusion arm.

“In specific situations at executive level, we have had gaps in gender, and an all-female shortlist has been built.”  GoCompare will have to report its gender pay gap figures next year following its takeover of MyVoucherCodes, which means it now has more than 250 staff.

Sources said the firm lost almost half the MyVoucherCodes workforce following the takeover as few people wanted to move to GoCompare’s headquarters in Newport.
