It says a lot about Britishness that the closest thing we have to a national Christmas film has a plotline based on implied adultery, unrequited love, awkward office flings and a fivesome with foreigners.

For those unfamiliar with Love Actually, Richard Curtis’s 2003 script follows a series of loosely connected Londoners trying to find love, with varying degrees of success.

In the background, an ageing, somewhat nihilistic, popstar Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) releases a yuletide spin on The Troggs’ Love Is All Around. He performs the arrhythmic Christmas Is All Around flanked by saxophonists dressed as sexy Santas while fake snow settles in his hair.

The film did not achieve explosive critical acclaim but it has become a Christmas classic. What's not to love about the curtain rising on a school's nativity play, featuring more than one lobster and a small shepherd in Spider-Man face paint, to find a local resident and former No 10 staffer snogging the prime minister?

In one of the film's most memorable scenes, the newly-married Juliet (Keira Knightley) answers the door to her husband’s best man (Andrew Lincoln). He plays music through a portable stereo – "say it's carol singers" – and confesses his secret love for her – “just because it’s Christmas” – via a succession of self-deprecating cue cards that end with the saccharine "to me, you are perfect”.

Knightley's character is not swayed, but Telegraph readers who enjoy romantic gestures now have the opportunity to recreate this scene themselves. Knight Frank estate agents is selling the three-bedroom Notting Hill mews house next door to where this moment was filmed.

The property has an open-plan kitchen, concrete floors with underfloor heating and a stylish roof garden with a hot tub. It has modern touches, such as a glass wall that turns from clear to opaque at the flick of a switch.

It will set you back a cool £3.25m. To misquote The Beatles: love isn't always all you need.
