Hotels begin charging premium prices for pool access

Yahoo Finance Live observes a new trend in hotels that are charging guests additional fees for pool access.

DAVE BRIGGS: Anyone who's traveled recently is well aware of the slew of fees that can get tacked on to your hotel bill. But what if you had to pay to go to the pool? According to a new report in the Wall Street Journal, charging a premium to take a dip is a growing trend among the nation's hotels. $200 for some just to have a chair poolside. What do you make of that, Seana?

SEANA SMITH: You know, it's not surprising. I'm not excited about it because I think if you go to a hotel, then you should largely expect that you're able to go to the pool and not have to pay upwards of $200 in some cases. Bellagio, that's what they're charging for the Friday of Labor Day. So Rachelle, not surprising. Other side of it, something I'm not excited about at all.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: I mean, it's like people need a break. Like, inflation is already killing people. So when you add to the fact that if you just want to lounge by the pool, it's very hot, and now they're charging $200-- I think that's as you were saying at the Bellagio. You have other places, if you want, like, a day bed or a cabana, you're looking at about $575 or $1,200. So maybe bring your own towel, lay somewhere else by the side because it's going to be expensive and probably not worth it.
