'Alien' Turns 35: An Exclusive Look at Some Terrifying Concept Art for the Title Creatures

H.R. Giger’s iconic designs for the 1979 thriller 'Alien' changed sci-fi movies forever, sending the genre into the darkest recesses of our fears and imagination. The parasitic monsters — which helped Giger win an Oscar in 1980 — are still some of the most incredible designs in modern motion pictures. To commemorate both the 35th anniversary of the movie's release and the grotesque designs of the Swiss painter and filmmaker, 20th Century Fox has included a series of cards on the new Blu-ray set featuring the original paintings that Giger presented to director Ridley Scott. The stunning collection is even more special now that the aliens have been retired from the 'Alien' franchise. “The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting H.R. Giger all those years ago," Scott told Yahoo Movies recently as he was looking ahead to a 'Prometheus' sequel. “But after four [not including the 'Alien vs. Predator' movies], I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do.” Click through for a look at some of the images that will be haunting your dreams tonight.
