10 Actors Who Could Replace Andrew Garfield As Spider-Man

image

The news that Spider-Man will finally be joining Marvel’s Cinematic Universe means that Andrew Garfield is going to be replaced as Peter Parker.

The reboot of the superhero will not only bring an end to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ series, but it means that speculation over who will follow in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Garfield will begin immediately.

But who is in line to star as Marvel’s Spider-Man/Peter Parker? Here are 10 actors we think could fit.

Anton Yelchin

Yelchin was one of the names originally touted with Spider-Man when Garfield was cast back in 2010, and his resume has only got better since. Plus, he hasn’t looked out of place in the ‘Star Trek’ series, and he’s still only 25. A loveable screen-presence, Yelchin is at home portraying a loser and being tough.

Dane DeHaan

Incredibly unlikely as DeHaan portrayed the Green Goblin/Harry Osborn in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ But he’s one of the most intriguing young actors in Hollywood having appeared in the blockbuster alongside the likes of quirky independent flicks like ‘Chronicle’, ‘Life After Beth’ and ‘Kill Your Darlings’.

Eddie Redmayne

Another unlikely candidate as Redmayne is good friends with Andrew Garfield and has previously distanced himself from the role. But after his stellar performance in ‘The Theory Of Everything’, which has left him as one of the favourites to pick up the Best Actor Oscar later this month, studios will currently be falling over themselves to offer the actor his very own franchise.

John Boyega

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is set to turn 22-year-old John Boyega into a mega-star, and he has the skill, presence and charisma to build upon this success. Youthful yet tough, Boyega has also previously admitted that he’s a huge fan of Marvel Comics and would surely leap at the opportunity to portray Peter Parker.

Ansel Elgort

Having already appeared in the likes of ‘Divergent’ and ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, Elgort has proven that he is a commanding screen-presence. Looks destined for great things, and at 20 he would be able to star as Parker for the next decade.

Donald Glover

Back in 2010 a Twitter campaign to get the ‘Community’ actor/comedian/model/rapper cast as Spider-Man picked up incredible momentum. And while there were some who didn’t like the idea of a black Peter Parker (otherwise known as morons), there’s no denying the fact that Glover would have exceled as the webbed crusader. At 31 he’s probably too old now though.

Jack O’Connell

The recent recipient of the 2015 BAFTA Rising Star Award, O’Connell’s ‘Unbroken’ performance turned him into one of the most promising young actors in the world. Was close to being cast as Reed Richards in Josh Trank’s upcoming reboot of ‘The Fantastic Four’ too, before ultimately losing out to Miles Teller, which proves he’s already got the attention of Hollywood’s main powers.

Daniel Radcliffe

Harry Potter as Peter Parker? I know it sounds laughable but hear me out. Radcliffe has branched out from JK Rowling’s character impeccably over the last few years, thanks to his impressive turns in ‘The Woman In Black’, ‘Kill Your Darlings’, ‘Horns’ and ‘The F-Word’ respectively. Has shown he can handle a huge franchise, and at 25-years-old he is young enough to carry Spider-Man for years to come.

Logan Lerman

Was sensational alongside Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf in 2014’s ‘Fury’, while he also revelled in the title role for the ‘Percy Jackson’ films and has shown his acting mettle in ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ and ‘Noah’ too. A precocious and intelligent 23-year-old talent, he’s destined to be considered for the blockbuster.

Freddie Highmore

Sleight, awkward and underwhelming but still possesses the skill to grab hold of a scene and impose himself, Highmore certainly has the hallmarks to excel as both Parker and Spider-Man. The 22-year-old has also proven that he can tackle an icon with his performance as Norman Bates in ‘The Bates Motel’ too.
