A Crime-Fighting Team Is Created in the New Trailer for 'Big Hero 6'

The streets of San Fransokyo will be a little safer this November, thanks to some quirky new heroes from an upcoming movie from Disney. The first full-length trailer has arrived for Big Hero 6, the computer-animated adventure adapted from a Marvel Comics mini-series. Like the teaser released in May, this new promo focuses on young robotics genius Hiro Hamada and his inflatable robot pal Baymax, who live in the fictional Japanese-American hybrid city.

The trailer finds the young protagonists in a police station, where Hiro is trying to describe their chance encounter with a nanobot-wielding criminal mastermind. A skeptical office compels Hiro to take on the challenge himself, outfitting Baymax in an Iron Man-type suit and forming his own crime-fighting team (the “6” of the title).

Viewers get a good look at the film’s kabuki-masked villain, but the other members of Hiro’s team – including a fighting chef named Wasabi and human energy-ball GoGo Tomago – only make a fleeting appearance in a speeding car. It’s worth noting that two of the heroes are girls; hopefully they’ll get more attention in the next trailer.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, director Chris Williams explained that he wants Big Hero 6 to appeal equally to grown-up superhero fans and their kids.

“We want people to feel comfortable bringing families and kids,” said Williams. “At the same time, there are going to be people who are fans of superhero movies and they’re used to action scenes of a certain scope and we don’t want to disappoint those people. We are those people.”
