Aladdin star Mena Massoud has landed a leading role in new Netflix movie The Royal Treatment.

The lead of Disney's live-action remake has been cast alongside Laura Marano (Austin & Ally) for the new romance, which is directed by Rick Jacobson (Ash vs Evil Dead).

Produced by Marano and her siblings Ellen and Vanessa Marano, The Royal Treatment follows the story of hair salon owner Isabelle (Marano) and Prince Thomas (Massoud), who is forced to marry for duty.

Via Deadline: "Isabella runs her own salon and isn't afraid to speak her mind, while Prince Thomas runs his own country and is about to marry for duty rather than love.

"When Izzy and her fellow stylists get the opportunity of a lifetime to do the hair for the royal wedding, she and Prince Thomas learn that taking control of their own destiny requires following their hearts."

Further cast details are yet to be revealed, with the project still in the early stages of development.

Massoud is set to reprise his title role for the upcoming Aladdin sequel, which Guy Ritchie is returning to direct.

Will Smith and Naomi Scott are also expected to return for the sequel, although this has not yet been confirmed.

While the 2019 live-action remake was based on the 1992 animation, this proposed follow up will have nothing to do with the animated classic's straight-to-video sequels. Plot details are yet to be revealed.
