The Bank of England is holding a public poll to choose the next face to appear on the £20 note and film director Alfred Hitchcock is the current favourite to win.

Betfair is offering 7/1 odds on the Leytonstone-born ‘Psycho’ director replacing Adam Smith on the new note which is due to go into circulation in the next 3-5 years.

The new note will celebrate Britain’s achievements in the visual arts and the Bank of England has invited the public to submit their nominations before the poll closes on 19 July 2015.

Other filmmakers said to be in the mix include silent screen icon Charlie Chaplin, Oscar-winning actor-director Sir Richard Attenborough, and playwright Noel Coward.

Artist JMW Turner is also in the running, as is author Beatrix Potter and fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Nominations must come from a visual arts background, and no longer be alive, thus completely ruling out Jason Statham’s chances.

Don’t worry though fans of The Stath, his time will come.

You too can submit your own nominations here.
