Angelina Jolie Goes Blond for 'By the Sea'

Since tying the knot two months ago, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been engaged in their other steamy saga, filming the romantic drama By the Sea in Malta. Now we get a first look at them in action, via these photos taken on set on Wednesday.

The most remarkable detail at first glance is Jolie’s blond, banged hairdo. (But the Oscar winner didn’t hit the dye for the part: she’s wearing a wig.) Also notable is the wardrobe. The film, written and being directed by Jolie, is set in France in the mid-1970s, and both actors are dressed in era-appropriate garb. Jolie, who plays a former dancer, is sporting a crème-colored frock with an avocado-hued scarf, while the mustachioed Pitt has a crisp, white dress shirt on, topped off with a stylish fedora.

Jolie has gone blond for other projects, starting with her Oscar-winning role in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted. She also had lighter locks opposite Nicolas Cage in the 2000 car-crime action film Gone in Sixty Seconds and in the 2002 rom-com Life or Something Like It with Edward Burns.

Jolie and Pitt, who are also jointly producing By the Sea, play a husband and wife seeking to revitalize their marriage during a trip around the country. Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) and Niels Arestrup (War Horse) are also set to appear in the drama.

The Jolie-Pitts have been making the movie on the small European island, located south of Sicily, for nearly three months now — taking a quick timeout to wed on their France estate on Aug. 23. They haven’t appeared onscreen together since 2005, when they played secret assassins and love interests in Mr. & Mrs. Smith — when they first fell in love.

A source close to the film tells Yahoo Movies there are definitely sensual love scenes between the couple to look forward to in By the Sea. And contrary to a prior report of “crazy sex scenes,” we’re told the sequences have been done tastefully.

By the Sea is set to sail into theaters sometime next year.
