Ant-Man Reshoots Closer To Edgar Wright’s Film?

It looks as though ‘Ant-Man’ may be a lot closer to Edgar Wright’s original script after some recent reshoots… and that has to be a good thing, right?

After Edgar Wright’s high-profile exit from Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ movie, it looked as though they might have a struggle to find a suitable director. Having finally settled on Peyton Reed, it seemed they couldn’t be further from Edgar Wright’s unique style.

But now apparently, the movie may have been pulled back towards Wright’s original ideas.

According to Badass Digest, the upcoming ‘Ant-Man’ movie has changed a lot during production… and may be closer to Edgar Wright’s vision than before.

“I’ve been hearing that the movie evolved (especially in reshoots) to come back to a place closer to where Wright had it,” they explained, “with Scott Lang as more of a crook when the film opens.”

Of course, I can’t help wondering whether this is the sticking point that caused the eventual split between Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios… and it begs the question – why did they let him go?

“I think that pre-Guardians Marvel was freaking out about the roguishness of the character,” they added. “Post-Guardians it’s clear that the lead being a rogue does not hurt these movies.”

Obviously, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has changed things… and ultimately, it’s proved that a more unconventional superhero movie can work just as well as the tried and tested approach. But while it’s too late for Edgar Wright, it seems the fans may be thankful for this creative epiphany.

After all, Ant-Man is likely to be a very different kind of hero… and with Scott Lang more in the style of Starlord, I can’t help thinking they might be onto a winner.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Ant-Man’ heads to cinemas on 17 July 2015.
