Ant-Man Trailer: Paul Rudd Mounts His Flying Ant

Marvel has quit teasing and dropped the ‘Ant-Man’ trailer.

Complete with a husky voice-over from Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd makes his first proper appearance as Scott Lang, the con-man who is gifted a special suit which shrinks him to minuscule size, but affords him immense power.

Douglas’s Dr Hank Pym is the original Ant-Man, who mentors Lang and offers him the chance to pull off a daring heist.

A fair chunk of the clip attends to the touchy-feely backstory, of Lang’s chance to ‘look into your daughter’s eyes, to become the hero that she already thinks you are’.

Then things take a bit of a turn for the less orthodox.

Mounting a flying ant, Rudd’s reformed con flies off to meet his destiny.

Arguably less dramatic than many fans may have hoped, it still provides a look and feel that was somewhat elusive up until now.

Many will also perhaps be left wondering how the aforementioned look and feel might have differed to that constructed by Edgar Wright, who worked on the project for many years, before being ousted as director last year in favour of Peyton Reed.

We may never know.

Also starring are Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as the villainous Yellowjacket, Hayley Atwell reprising her role as Peggy Carter and John Slattery as Howard Stark.

The movie will land on July 17. Check out the funny first poster below.
