Asa Butterfield Interested In Spider-Man Role

It looks as though Dylan O’Brien may have some competition for the role of Spider-Man… as Asa Butterfield admits he’d love to nab the role.

Appearing on Reddit during a discussion of who should play Spider-Man, the 17-year-old British actor was mentioned for the role… and it seems he rather likes the idea.

“I’M SO DOWN!” he responded.

And when suggested that he might be perfect for a more sciencey Peter Parker, he had this to say: “I can do ‘thin little bespectacled dweeb’ pretty good, not far from myself actually.”

But would he really make a good Peter Parker?

It’s been rumoured that since Marvel and Sony’s landmark Spider-Man deal, that the new movie will be aiming a little younger – introducing a Spider-Man who is still in high school. And at the age of 17, I can’t help thinking that Butterfield would fit right in.

But perhaps not as Spider-Man…

Don’t get me wrong – Butterfield has a certain look that fits the science-dweeb nature of Peter Parker himself. But can you imagine him suited up in the classic red and blue? Probably not.

Although ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ was far from perfect, it did have some good points… and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn was one of them. But I get the feeling Asa Butterfield is a good choice for the role. That is, depending on who they get to fill the role of Spidey.

But for now, all we have is rumours. We’re still unsure exactly which Spider-Man they’ll be bringing to the big screen, and even the supposed age range is based on hearsay. This could mean that ‘The Maze Runner’ star Dylan O’Brien is in with a chance of nabbing the coveted role. And that would mean a slightly older Spider-Man that could put other roles just out of Asa Butterfield’s reach.

Still, I think he’d make a great Harry Osborn.

Would he be interested in that kind of role? It may not be what he had in mind, but after his performance in ‘Ender’s Game’ he’s show he has the emotional intensity to pull it off. But will it happen? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
