Astonishing X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art Shows Cyclops & Jean Grey

Brand new ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ concept art has been released, showing young heroes Cyclops and Jean Grey fighting in costume.

Printed in the pages of the latest issue of Empire Magazine, the image depicts a desolate post-apocalyptic (or rather, post-Apocalypse) 80s landscape.

The Pepsi billboard confirms that this desolation takes place on Earth in the 1980s and not in the future, meaning Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse will be living up to his name.

In the process it appears he will be greatly altering the series’ timeline, which was already shaken up last year in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

The image covers a two-page spread opening a preview feature about “The X-Universe” of films being made at 20th Century Fox.

That cinematic universe is set to be hugely expanded over the coming years with Ryan Reynold’s 'Deadpool’ solo movie in 2016, a follow-up to 'The Wolverine’ which will be Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as the character, a 'Gambit’ movie starring Channing Tatum and a 'New Mutants’ feature being made by Josh Boone.

Fox’s upcoming 'Fantastic Four’ reboot and its already-announced 2017 sequel also form part of this universe given they are the only two Marvel Comics properties owned by the studio. The ‘Fantastic Four’ and ‘X-Men’ properties are expected to crossover at some point.

First comes 'Deadpool’ in February, followed by 'Apocalpyse’ a few months later.

'Apocalypse’ sees James McAvoy return as Professor X (complete with bald head), Michael Fassbender don the famous helmet of Magneto once more and Jennifer Lawrence endure hours in the make-up chair again as Mystique.

Nicholas Hoult also returns as Beast alongside Rose Byrne as Moira MacTagger, Lucas Till as Havok, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and newcomers Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcralwer.

Directed by Bryan Singer, 'X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be released on 19 May 2016.
