Avengers 2: Joss Whedon Responds To Idris Elba Leak

Writer-director Joss Whedon has joked he may have to “scold” actor Idris Elba for revealing that he and Tom Hiddleston will appear in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.'

The presence of Elba’s Heimdall and Hiddleston’s Loki in the sequel to 2012’s ‘Avengers Assemble’ had been a complete secret until Elba casually let the information slip in an interview this weekend (in which he spoke less than favourably of his experiences shooting ‘Thor: the Dark World’).

Catching up with Whedon at an Equality Now event in Beverly Hills, Vulture asked whether he had sent Elba a scolding e-mail, to which Whedon replied, “should he receive an email from me, there might be an attitude of scold.”

Still, Whedon seems to accept that unexpected leaks to the media are an occupational hazard on something as huge as a Marvel movie: “when you have a cast of 19,000 people, inevitably, once every month, you pick up [a story] and you’re like, “Awww.”“

He goes on to admit the pressure is on (not that it wasn’t already) for ‘Age of Ultron’ to really deliver in the wake of Marvel’s big reveal of all their upcoming movies until 2019.

"You know, it is a little daunting, and you sort of go, [mock-whiny] “What about my movie? I haven’t even been born and you already like my younger siblings better?”

"But at the same time it’s exhilarating. It’s really fun to see where Kevin [Feige, producer/Marvel Studios president]’s taking it and to see the workings of that mind. I think it was a very canny and very human move, I really like the slate."

Regarding Mark Ruffalo’s recent admission that he doesn’t know how many Marvel movies he’s likely to appear in, Whedon also admits he’s none the wiser there.

"No, I don’t [know]. Because these plans become mutable. ‘These guys have these rights, oh, now we have these rights. Oh, this guy is now not available.’

"Again, you’re dealing with so many moving parts and so many factors, you just can’t really predict much."

Alas, the question of Whedon’s own future with Marvel was not broached - and it has been hinted that ‘Age of Ultron’ may mark the end of his tenure with the MCU.

Now in post-production, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is due in cinemas May 2015.
