Avengers: Age Of Ultron Trailer Unleashed After Online Leak

The first trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ has smashed its way onto the internet a week early, after it was leaked.

Producers of the forthcoming hero-fest were graceful in defeat, tweeting in response:

Hydra being, of course, Marvel’s shadowy underground organisation, hellbent on world domination.

Within hours, Marvel had bitten the bullet and released the full HD version, which was actually due to premiere during ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ next week.

But all that business aside, here’s a few things we learned from this barn-storming first look at one of 2015’s hottest blockbusters….

HULKBUSTER!!

So it looks like the testy friction between Tony Stark and Bruce Banner reaches a catastrophic head, with Iron Man pulling out this sturdy new mech-couture to quell the rampaging Hulk and his somewhat uncontrollable rage issues. Is it for the greater good? Or could this be more a case of divide and conquer? There’s a shot of Thor at Stark’s throat too, so it appears there are some fissures in the ranks.

Ultron loves Pinocchio…

But then, who doesn’t? The running overture in this first clip is the tune ‘I’ve Got No Strings’ from Pinocchio, sung all spooky like. “You’re all puppets… tangled in strings,” says James Spader’s malevolent robot Ultron, the movie’s lead antagonist. From this first proper glimpse he looks, frankly, pretty badass. “I had strings, but now I’m free… there are no strings on me,” Ultron proffers. Chilling.

No jokes…

If there is humour, it’s not in the trailer. Joss Whedon’s take on the Marvel property has been distinctly more ‘vivid comic book’ than, say, Christopher Nolan’s bleaker colour palette in his ‘Dark Knight’ movies. But wise-cracking Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr) persistent gaggery appears to have dried up. There’s a tone here. And it’s a bit dark.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver…

Already busted out in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ (played in Bryan Singer’s movie by Evan Peters), Joss Whedon has given us a look at his own speedy superhero Quicksilver, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, after teasing he and Elizabeth Olson’s Scarlet Witch at the end of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. Which one will be quicker? They should settle it in a race round a pub carpark.

Interestingly there’s a shot of the pair - presumably pre-powers as Quicksilver’s hair isn’t grey yet - at some sort of protest early on in the trailer. This suggests we’ll get to see the origins of the siblings. Could one of the Avengers be involved? Stark Industries seems to be a likely offender.

Down tools…

So not only do we see Chris Hemsworth’s Thor dropping his hammer (not, generally, a good sign for the fate of humanity), but there’s also a snapshot of Captain America’s (Chris Evans) trusty shield cracked in half. He’s got a spare in his locker, right?….. right?

There’s going to be a metropolitan showdown… again

In an arguably mildly disappointing reveal – and perhaps the only disappointing thing going on here - it appears we’ll be treated to another showdown in a central business district, likely in Johannesburg. Yes, another one. But we’re sure Signor Whedon has it all in hand…

Here’s the first poster too for your delectation.
