Avengers: Infinity War To Film For 9 Months

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will be getting a rather epic film shoot… as both ‘Part One’ and ‘Part Two’ will film back-to-back for 9 months.

During an interview with Esquire (via Collider), ‘Captain America’ star Chris Evans revealed details of the gruelling shoot.

“That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back,” he said, explaining that ‘Infinity War’ begins filming in either autumn or winter 2016.

Of course, he also provided some details on when ‘Civil War’ will likely wrap, revealing that they should be done by “August or September” – a fairly average shoot for a huge Hollywood blockbuster.

But it seems ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is going to be far from average.

Filming ‘back-to-back’ seems to be a bit of a trend with big budget superhero movies these days – after all, we heard plenty of rumours that ‘Batman V Superman’ would film back-to-back with the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie.

But in the case of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ perhaps it makes a lot more sense.

For one thing, the two parts are obviously linked by a lot more than just the characters appearing in them. It’s a two-part event movie, and that’s likely to mean we’ll see some familiar locations in both films… and so using the same sets will be crucial.

And then there’s the sheer scale of it all.

Likely to involve many, if not all of the heroes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it makes a lot of sense to get the filming out of the way in one big block – especially when you consider the level of CGI that’s needed to bring some of them to the big screen.

So while a film shoot that lasts 9 months may seem like an incredibly long time, it’s actually not so bad. After all, they are filming two movies here – not just one. And let’s face it – Evans himself doesn’t sound too put out.

“You know, you plan around the Marvel responsibilities,” he explained. “You have to.”

Of course, this early shooting schedule gives Marvel plenty of time for post-production in the lead-up to the first film’s 2018 release… and with most movies needing to do pickup shots, it could even extend filming longer than the initial 9 months.

Let’s just hope that ‘Infinity War’ is as good as it sounds. I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

‘Avengers: Infinity War Part One’ heads to cinemas on 27 April 2018.
