Avengers Show Who’s the Boss in New ‘Age of Ultron’ Spot

Now that’s more like the Avengers we know.

After a couple of downbeat trailers engineered to show the existential threat posed by titular bad ‘bot Ultron, we finally have an ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ spot where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes shine. And look like they’re having fun in the process.

Released Thursday, the commercial titled “Boss” eschews an Ultron monologue for some patented Tony Stark banter.

"All set up, boss," former S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Maria Hill tells Stark. "Actually he’s the boss," Stark replies, pointing to Steve "Captain America" Rogers, without missing a beat. "I just pay for everything, and design everything, make everyone look cooler," he continues as we get flashes of high-tech gear, including the Hulkbuster armor, trick arrows for Hawkeye, and a sweet motorcycle that Black Widow drives right out of a sleek-looking new-model Quinjet.

Of course, we need something to use all these toys on. Hence, Ultron makes his entrance and thows down the gauntlet: “The Avengers, how could you possibly stop me?”

Cue Nick Fury’s rallying cry, “Show ‘em what we got” and then a roll call of the team. Iron Man displays some fancy flying. Captain America pulls off the coolest move of the minute-long clip with a motorcycle-hurling manoeuvre.

Black Widow puts the beatdown on some HYDRA folks. Hulk smashes. Thor demonstrates his baseball skills, hammering Cap’s shield into some of Ultron’s minions (“It’s all in the swing”).

Hawkeye, who has more screen time in this clip than any of the previous, actually gets a line, telling new heroes Scarlet Witch (aka Wanda Maximoff) and Quicksilver (aka Pietro Maximoff), “If you step out that door, you’re an Avenger.” Wanda and Pietro indeed step out the door and show off their skills.

The super-speedster even gets a quip of his own (delivered in a Russian accent that might take some getting used to): “What, you didn’t see that coming?”

"All right," says Ultron, who gets his big moment at the end. "It’s time for some fun." Although we don’t have any more glimpses of the Vision, we do get all kinds of android-on-Avenger action at the end.
