BAFTAs 2015: Bob Hoskins AND Rik Mayall Snubbed From In Memorium Tribute

The ‘In Memorium’ segment at this year’s BAFTAs was as emotional and touching as ever.

As always, it paid tribute to the cinemas stars from both behind and in front of the camera. This year’s mentions included Robin Williams, Lauren Becall, Richard Attenborough and Mike Nichols.

But not one, but TWO eminent British actors were absent: Bob Hoskins and Rik Mayall.

Hoskins, who died in April 2014, was surprisingly omitted from the list, despite actually winning a Best Actor BAFTA in 1986 for ‘Mona Lisa’.

He was also nominated in 1981 for ‘The Long Good Friday’ and won international fame after starring in the likes of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, ‘Brazil’, ‘Hook’, ‘Nixon’ and ‘Made In Dagenham’.

The much-beloved actor sadly passed away (from pneumonia) well within the eligibility period, so we’re not sure why he wasn’t included. If we find out then we'll update this story.

Mayall died suddenly in June last year at the age of just 56.

One of the most beloved comedians of his generation, he was best known for sitcoms 'Bottom' and 'Blackadder', but also appeared in numerous films, including 'Guest House Paradiso', 'Wind In The Willows' and 'Drop Dead Fred'.

In the meantime, however, film fans and commentators have reacted angrily to the glaring omissions, hundreds taking to Twitter to call BAFTA to account, with some suggesting the Academy makes an official apology.

The ‘In Memorium’ section of the BAFTAs was also criticised last year, when James Gandolfini, Richard Griffiths and Roger Lloyd Pack were all somehow left out.
