Batman V Superman Costume Designer On Crafting Flexible Bat-Suit, New Aquaman Attire

The lack of a ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ trailer means that one of the few facets of the blockbuster fans have been able to fawn over has come in the shape of its released images.

Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have given us a good look at what Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ben Affleck’s Batman will be wearing in the ‘Man Of Steel’ sequel over the last few months.

And during a recent chat with Fashionista, Michael Wilkinson, the Oscar nominated costume designer who is in control of crafting these super-suits has revealed several titbits regarding the attire, and what Snyder instructed him to create.

Wilkinson revealed that Snyder “wants these characters to connect directly to our world.” He added, “So if you were walking down the street and you came across Superman or Batman – of course it would be startling and powerful – but it could actually happen in our world rather than in a stylised version of our reality.”

Wilkinson confirmed that the Bat-Suit is incredibly flexible and comfortable, which allowed Ben Affleck to “perform in a very natural and forceful way,” while also noting that it took Cavill and Affleck 15 and 25 minutes respectively to get into their costumes.

He was also given free reign to change Aquaman’s look, stating that previous comic-book interpretations left him looking not as “cool” as his fellow Justice League posse.

Wilkinson admitted it was a “huge challenge” to reinterpret Aquaman’s look, but he persisted because, “People have a lot of complaints about the orange skin and the green tights and that whole thing.”

We’ll know if Wilkinson has done a bang-up job on these costumes when ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ finally hits screens on March 25, 2016.
