Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Trailer Unleashed

The Dark Knight has risen again … and a little bit earlier than expected.

After an eager fan’s mobile phone recording of the very dark ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ trailer made its way to the internet late Thursday night, Warner Bros. has gone ahead and given fans a high-quality look at Zack Snyder’s dark sequel, in which Ben Affleck makes his debut as Batman (you can watch the trailer above).

The clip opens with the voices of several TV personalities asking tough-to-answer questions about Superman, the seemingly god-like alien that saved the world (while destroying much of Metropolis) at the end of 2013′s ‘Man of Steel’. One voice calls Superman (Henry Cavill) a saviour; another suggests that maybe he’s just a man looking to do the right thing.

“Human beings have a horrible track record of following people with great power,” one voice reminds us. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” another adds. We also hear what appears to be the voice of Holly Hunter, who plays a U.S. senator in the film: “The world has been so caught up in what he can do that no one has asked what he should do.”

Regardless of which talking head you’d agree with, it’s obvious that Superman has become a controversial figure after his earth-shattering, neck-snapping ‘Man of Steel’ battle with General Zod. Some see him as a threat, while others in the new trailer are shown bowing down to him — an act of super-fanaticism that makes Supes look a bit squeamish.

One man doesn’t take all that kindly to Superman’s newfound status: Bruce Wayne (Affleck), shown here wearing an armored suit that looks to be ripped straight from Frank Miller’s seminal 1986 comic-book mini-series ‘The Dark Knight Returns’. From this first look, Affleck seems to be as good at glowering angrily as his bat-predecessor, Christian Bale, though the assistance he gets from the glowing eyes on his costume cannot be overlooked.

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ — which will also introduce Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg) The Flash (Ezra Miller) — hits cinemas on March 26, 2016.
