The ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Alex Cross’ actor will play the scientist character that many were speculating would appear in the 2016 sequel. Variety confirmed the personality, best known for his ‘Tyler Perry Presents’ films, would be appearing in the film, directed by ‘Earth to Echo’ hemler Dave Green.

During the course of TMNT history, Stockman has played a pivotal role in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ world, predominantly working with The Shredder and generally opposing the heroes in a half-shell. He’s the brain behind the well-known Mouser robots – small machines created to hunt down rats, specifically Splinter.

The representation of Baxter Stockman has varied over the years, with his first appearance (in the comics) as an African American sociopath who had no initial affiliation with The Shredder.

Further down the line, his return to the comic world saw him become a major villain to the Turtles when DARPA placed his brain into a cyborg body… as you do.

His appearance and intent altered dramatically for the cartoon series, whereby he became a sniveling Caucasian scientist who worked for The Shredder.

Later, after he and Krang had no further use for him, Stockman was thrown into a disintegrator unit in Dimension X. However, a house fly was on him at the time and, in an obvious homage to ‘The Fly’, transformed him into a giant humanoid insect.

It appears, upon first inspection at least, that the character might be based on the initial vision, rather than the comically misguided one in the television show. Either way, he’s a nice addition – along with recently announced Casey Jones – that’ll see a bit of life breathed into the sequel, with new characters to go with its evolving story.
