BBC Airs Hoax Caller Branding Star Wars 'Racist And Homophobic'

‘Star Wars’ has been damned as racist, homophobic, and misogynist for putting Princess Leia in a 'space bikini’, claimed one fan who was broadcast on the BBC’s World Service in a discussion about the new trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

Twitter user Godfrey Elfwick, who appeared on the 'World Have Your Say’ show, had many strong opinions about George Lucas’s classic space operas, despite claiming never to have seen them.

And in a devastating lesson on researching your callers before putting them on air, it emerged quickly that Mr Elfwick was in fact a hoaxer, and a rather impressive one at that.

Asked what he thought of the movies, he spat forth in a damning tirade to the show’s host, Chloe Tilley.

“The gold robot – C-25 or whatever he’s called – is a camp, neurotic coward,” he said, to some sniggering in the studio.

“The main bad guy – what’s he called, Dark Raider? – is black, he has a deep voice, he listens to rap music – it’s just a really bad racial stereotype.

“The only main female ends up in a space bikini chained to a horny space slug. It reeked of misogyny.”

He also slammed the new trailer as 'very low quality’.

It was after producer Angela Sheeran spotted this tweet that Elfwick – self-described on his Twitter page as a 'demisexual genderqueer Muslim atheist. Literal good guy. Itinerant jongleur. Pronouns are Xir, Xirs Xirself. Filters life through the lens of minority issues’ – that he was invited onto the show:

Said a BBC spokesperson: “On this occasion, the Force was not with us.

“The guest presented himself as a 20-year-old who’s never seen Star Wars, and we put him on air under that pretence.

“WHYS producers always do their best to check guests in a live programme that invites global discussion from listeners.”
