Beauty And The Beast: What We Know So Far

With momentum building for Disney’s live-action production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, it’s easy to lose track with new announcements hitting the internet every week, so we’ve compiled all the info you need to know about the 2017 film.

When’s it out?

Disney’s live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will hit cinemas on 17 March, 2017 in the US, with no confirmed date set for the UK yet. It should be out here before the summer, though. It’ll also be a 3D release, which will not only earned an extra slice of profits, but appease fans of the format, too.

Who’s behind it?

Disney are, obviously, but New Yorker Bill Condon (’Dreamgirls’, and both parts of ‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’) is directing.’The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ writer Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos (’Hercules’, ‘The Huntsman’) will team up to pen the screenplay.

Who’s in it?

The famous names seem to be adding to the cast list by the week, so don’t be surprised if it has been updated further by the time you read this.

Emma Watson (of ‘Harry Potter’ fame) is Belle, with Dan Stevens (’The Guest, ‘Downton Abbey’) as Beast. The pairing will be acting alongside support from Luke Evans as the dastardly Gaston, Emma Thompson as the sweet Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Gaston’s right-hand man Le Fou, and Kevin Kline as Maurice.

Anything new?

It’s the first time Disney have attempted to make a live adaptation of this, having experienced worldwide success with their animated version in 1991. But it’s unclear exactly what we can expect with this version: will we see Hollywood’s elite play more human versions of their character counterparts, or will it be a case of voice acting at the ready?

Why should I see it?

Live-action versions of their classic animations seems to be a growing trend with Disney at the moment, having had significant successes with ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Maleficent’ and, just this week, ‘Cinderella’. The animated ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is a great film in their catalogue, so there’s a lot of potential here, especially with its diverse, capable cast.
