Ben Affleck Makes Batman Reference During Senate Hearing

Ben Affleck couldn’t resist the opportunity to make a Batman reference when he found himself stood opposite a previous star of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ saga.

But what made the actor’s reference even more legendary was that it came while Affleck was testifying at a Congressional hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The 42-year-old was in the US capitol to speak in front of a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee about foreign aid, and with his wife Jennifer Garner and 9-year-old daughter Violet sat behind him Affleck also discussed his Eastern Congo Initiative.

One of the committee members in front of him during his remarks was Senator Patrick Leahy, who hails from Vermont and is a huge fan of the Batman comics. So much so in fact that he’s made numerous cameos in various Batman television and films.

Shortly into his opening, Affleck turned to Leahy and declared, “I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge my co-star in Batman. The role is marginally smaller than mine, but I understand that you are quite good.”

Leahy chortled at Affleck’s comment, but he would also have been well within his rights to remind the ‘Argo’ director that he has made cameos in ‘Batman: The Animated Series’, ‘Batman and Robin’, ‘The Dark Knight’, and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, while he’s also set to appear in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ too.

‘Dawn Of Justice’ will be Affleck’s first appearance as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and we’ll be able to see if he can match Leahy’s titanic efforts when ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ is released on March 25, 2016.
