Ben Affleck Shrugs Off Batman Casting Criticism

It’s been quite some time since Ben Affleck was announced as Batman in the upcoming ‘Batman V Superman’. And after mixed reactions to the news, it seems he’s still not too bothered.

Appearing on the ‘Today’ show, Ben Affleck addressed some concerns about the mixed reactions of the fans. And while co-host Matt Lauer seemed to take umbrage with the fans who happened to disagree with the casting, Affleck was cool as a cucumber.

“We have these cultural stories that people have attachments to,” he said. “They care very much about, the fans have imagined it, they write fan fiction, and they get very into and it and they’re certainly entitled to those feelings.”

Of course, Affleck’s casting didn’t go down well with everyone… and while I happen to think that he’s an excellent choice, some fans weren’t quite so accepting. Fan sites were soon flooded with comments berating Warner Bros’ casting choice. But it looks as though Affleck hasn’t let that put him off.

“This is the movie that more than any other movie combined, people come up to me and are really excited,” he added. “So to have all this attention, some of it is positive, and some of it is negative, I think in the end the truth is, you make the movie and the movie works or it doesn’t.”

Obviously, the real proof is in how the movie turns out… and after recent images of Affleck donning the cape and cowl, I have to admit, I’m rather optimistic. And it looks as though he might even have won over some of his detractors.

Naturally, there are still plenty of fans who just aren’t happy with the casting. And with ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ heading to cinemas in 2016, it’ll be some time before we get a really good look at Affleck as the Dark Knight. But will Affleck be able to live up to the expectations of the fans? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
