With Steven Spielberg’s ‘The BFG’ about to get underway, it’s emerged that funny man Bill Hader has been hired to play one of the giants.

Based on the classic Roald Dahl book about the only Big Friendly Giant (hence the acronym) out there who befriends a little girl named Sophie. His goal in life is to find and offer all the good dreams to children, whereby at the same time getting rid of the horrible nightmares they experience. He also has to prevent other giant folk from finding and gobbling up the children, which is a kind deed, for sure.

‘E.T.’ screenwriter Melissa Mathison has adapted Dahl’s work for the big-screen. Mark Rylance is to star as the film’s likeable title character, with newcomer Ruby Barnhill to assume the role of little girl Sophie.

1989 saw the first animated adaptation of ‘The BFG’, which starred David Jason as the voice of the giant, and Amanda Root as Sophie.

At present, Spielberg is still finishing off his Cold War thriller ‘Bridge of Spies’, which is out later this year, so seems like he’s juggling the two projects for the moment. Once the former is complete and he can focus on ‘The BFG’, we’ll likely begin to hear much more about who’s starring and get some on-set images, as well as get closure over the rumour that Martin Freeman is involved in the project too.

‘The BFG’ will commence shooting later this year, with a UK cinema release on 22 July, 2016.
