Billy Crystal’s Emotional Tribute To Robin Williams At The Emmys

Friends for decades, Billy Crystal gave a heartbreaking tribute to Robin Williams at the Emmy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles last night.

The actor and comedian took to the stage at the end of the annual ‘in memoriam’ section of the show, which heralds stars who have passed away this year.

His voice cracking, he began: “He made us laugh… Hard.”

After reminiscing about times Williams had spent with Crystal’s close and extended family, he added: “He was the greatest friend you could ever imagine.

“Supportive, protective, loving. It’s very hard to talk about him in the past, because he was so present in all of our lives.

“For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy. But while some of the brightest of our celestial bodies are actually extinct now, their energy long since cooled, miraculously as they float in the heavens far away from us now, their beautiful light will continue to shine on us forever.

“The glow will be so bright, it will warm your heart, it’ll make your eyes glisten, and it will make you think ‘Robin Williams, what a concept’.”

Williams died on August 11. Last week, his ashes were scattered in San Francisco Bay.
