Brad Bird Begins Writing The Incredibles 2

With ‘Tomorrowland: A World Beyond’ all but finished, it seems director Brad Bird is already beginning work on Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles 2′.

During an interview with NPR whereby he talked about his current Disney project, the acclaimed director revealed that work on the superhero follow-up has actually started.

“It’s percolating. I mean, I’m just starting to write it, so we’ll see what happens,” Bird shared. Granted, it’s not a lot to go on in terms of detail, but it at least reassures fans that the helmer of the original (released in 2004) is back in business for the sequel, even if it was first announced by Pixar’s CEO Bob Iger over 12 months ago.

It made sense for Pixar to reveal that the sequel was officially on its way in 2014, but seeing as Bird has been super-busy with Disney’s live-action ‘Tomorrowland’ project, it’s a given that he’s not had the time to begin writing it… until now, that is.

It’s likely that Bird’s team at Pixar Studios have been chipping away for the past year (and probably a lot longer) in terms of developing a story structure, characters, as well as some basics, but now is where it gets really interesting with the plot’s development.

With a 2016 pencilled release, ‘The Incredibles 2′ comes a lengthy 12 years after the first, which took a cool $631 million worldwide and won the approval of critics and Pixar fans alike with its original slant on the superhero genre.

Expect to hear more on ‘The Incredibles 2′ as the year progresses.
