Brits Eddie Redmayne, Ruth Wilson And Joanne Froggatt Bring Home Golden Globes

It was a decent night for the British Hollywood contingent at the Golden Globes last night, with Eddie Redmayne leading the charge.

The 33-year-old actor scooped the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama gong, beating competition from big-hitters like Jake Gyllenhaal and Steve Carell, alongside fellow Brits Benedict Cumberbatch and David Oyelowo.

He won the coveted award for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything’.

Currently on his honeymoon, and having cut short his holiday to attend the event with his wife Hannah Bagshawe, he said: “I promised her sunshine - it wasn’t so great today - but thanks for giving us a honeymoon we’ll remember.”

Meanwhile, Joanne Froggatt took home the Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series award for her long-running role of Anna Bates in ‘Downton Abbey’.

Froggatt, whose character was raped in the last season of the show, paid tribute to victims, hoping their voices would be heard.

“After the storyline aired I received a lot of letters from survivors of rape - thank you to everyone who wrote - I heard you,” she said.

Ruth Wilson also represented the UK, winning Best Actress in a TV drama for her role as Alison Lockhart in The Affair, beating Claire Danes in ‘Homeland’ for the title.

Other big winners on the night included Wes Anderson’s ‘Grand Hotel Budapest’, which won Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Richard Linklater’s ‘Boyhood’, which scooped Best Motion Picture, Drama.

Linklater won Best Director too, while Michael Keaton won Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Amy Adams took home Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for big eyes.
