Cameron Diaz Cuts Interview Short After Drew Barrymore Diss

Come between and actress and her best chum, and expect to suffer consequences – a lesson learned by Australian radio host Kyle Sandiland while interviewing Cameron Diaz.

Appearing on the Kyle and Jackie O show on Kiss 106.5, Diaz was doing the press rounds for her new movie ‘Sex Tape’ with co-star Jason Segel.

When Jackie O mentioned that the child star in the film, Giselle Eisenberg, reminded her of a young Drew Barrymore, Diaz agreed (you can check the interview out below).

“Aw, yeah! That’s cute!” Diaz replied. “She does, now that you mention it. And she’s as bright and lively as Drew is, as well. She’s a sweet little girl.”

But when Sandiland then chipped in with ‘Let’s hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I’d imagine’, things took a turn for the awkward.

Diaz has known Barrymore since she was 14, and they have been best friends ever since. As such, she didn’t take too kindly to the comments.

“I’m sure, Kyle, you’ve never been through a drug phase, have you?” Diaz hit back.

“Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean; always did it right? Congratulations.”

Not content with that, Sandiland then brought up her current relationship with musician Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, despite Diaz’s reticence to talk about her private life.

After an uncomfortable pause, it wasn’t long until Diaz said: “We’re having to go now. Sorry, they’re wrapping us up.”

Following the embarrassment, Jackie O hit back at her co-host on air, saying: “Good one, Kyle. You ruined that interview. Sorry to be blunt. You brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend’s drug addiction in the past. She’s her best friend. And then you brought up Benji. We all know how protective Cameron is about her private life.”

Unrepentant, Kyle replied: “Maybe they should’ve just bought ads if they wanted to sell the movie.”

Suffice to say a repeat interview with Ms Diaz now seems unlikely.
