Captain America: Civil War Announced

It’s official – ‘Captain America 3’ has finally been given a title… and ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is now the most highly-anticipated Marvel movie since the MCU first began.

During a special live event at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, Marvel announced that its two most iconic heroes – Iron Man and Captain America – will be going head-to-head in the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

“It’ll be hero vs. hero as Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ erupts onto the big screen!”

But what does that mean for the Marvel universe?

‘Civil War’ will likely follow the comic book series of the same name… at least to some degree. Following rising tensions amongst the US government, super heroes are forced to register. And let’s just say that some heroes don’t want to give up their secret identities.

Seeing former allies Tony Stark and Steve Rogers on opposite sides of the fence, it’s a gut-wrenching storyline that pits heroes against heroes. And that’s likely what we’ll be seeing on the big screen.

“This is heartbreaking for me,” said Chris Evans as the folks at marvel unveiled a new clip from ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ which apparently highlights the growing rift between Iron Man and Captain America.

“Cap and Tony are talking about the Maximoff kids while chopping wood,” said Marvel rep Patrick Cavanaugh. “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes…pulled apart like cotton candy.”

It certainly sounds as though The Avengers are really going through the mill in the upcoming ‘Age of Ultron’… and I get the feeling that this pushes Captain America to breaking point. It certainly isn’t a stretch to see Steve Rogers rebelling against Stark after one of his creations single-handedly tears apart The Avengers. But is this all there is to it?

In the comic books, the Civil War is based around the government’s response to a super-powered atrocity… forcing heroes to register themselves. And with Tony Stark heading up the pro-registration side, it’s not long before Cap takes up his shield against his former ally.

But is this what we can expect in ‘Captain America: Civil War’?

“Events of the whole cinematic universe will make all governments in the world want regulation,” explained Kevin Feige. “Not so much about secret identity, but about who reports to who.”

It’s easy to see why the world governments would begin to distrust super-powered heroes… and in the wake of S.H.I.E.L.D’s collapse, it certainly makes a lot of sense. But which of the Marvel heroes will appear in ‘Civil War’?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I get the feeling it’s going to be an all-star roster.
