Charlie Hunnam Plays "Dorky Dude" in Crimson Peak

It seems that star Charlie Hunnam will be taking on a less macho role than usual in his next film ‘Crimson Peak.’

While famed for his roles in TV’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and 2013 monster movie ‘Pacific Rim,’ Hunnam perhaps remains best known for being cast as Christian Grey in the upcoming ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movie, before having a change of heart.

From the sound of things, the role Hunnam plays in ‘Crimson Peak’ - a period horror reunites the British actor with director Guillermo del Toro - could not be much further removed from the infamous Mr Grey.

Hunnam tells Nuke The Fridge that this is a “very different” role.

It’s kind of a very sweet, shy, quiet, dorky dude who doesn’t get the girl.”

While the subject of ‘50 Shades of Grey’ was not broached in the interview (fair enough, as the actor has long since severed all ties with the property), Hunnam does mention being “a very private person” in everyday life - and it is widely thought this desire for privacy turned him off playing such a notorious high profile role.

Regarding the proposed sequel to ‘Pacific Rim,’ Hunnam seemed keen but uncertain.

I don’t know if it’s definitely going ahead… We got a release date, got a script ordered but it’s Hollywood. You never know until you’re on set, but they seem very, very enthusiastic and excited about it.”

Unsurprisingly Hunnam would give nothing away plot-wise, but says “I’ve talked a little bit with Guillermo about the story he wants to tell and it’s pretty badass.”

Currently finishing work on the final season of ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ Hunnam admits he would consider another TV series.

'Crimson Peak,' meanwhile, is due to open in cinemas on 16 October 2015.
