Christian Bale: I Was Never Asked To Reprise Batman

Christian Bale has insisted that he was never actually approached about reprising his role as Batman.

The Welsh actor originally played the caped crusader in ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ but Ben Affleck has since been cast for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.’

During his discussion with Esquire to promote his upcoming turn as Moses in ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Bale was asked about various rumours linking him with a return to Gotham, while he was also probed about speculation he had been approached to play James Bond before Daniel Craig.

“No, I’ve never heard of that,” Bale responded when asked how close he was to playing 007, before he then quickly added, “Equally untrue about them coming to me for Batman, before Ben Affleck… I think it’s the right decision.”

“People were talking about this obscene amount of money they were saying was thrown at me,” he continued. “No. I didn’t have a single conversation with anybody about ever playing the role again.”

But is there a chance that Christian Bale might pull on the famous cape and mask again? He can’t see it happening, because if he did it would just undermine the fine work that he did alongside Christopher Nolan.

“I think, probably with that, it’s never,” he admitted. “Because I can’t help but feel it would just be a spoof on it. You know what I mean?”

After it was announced that Batman would be going toe-to-toe with Superman speculation increased that Warner Bros would try to convince Bale to return as the character. And, as you’d have thought, he was allegedly going to make quite a pretty penny if he decided to do just that.

However it now appears as though this was all just falsified information, which kind of makes sense.

Director Zack Snyder will want to make the blockbuster his own and casting Bale would only instantly draw comparisons to Nolan’s trilogy.

Of course these comparisons are still bound to occur even though Affleck has replaced Bale, but Nolan won’t cast quite as large a shadow now that most ties to his Dark Knight sage have been cut.

Whether that is actually a good thing or not still remains to be seen.
