Christian Bale "Nearly Too Fat" To Play Moses In Exodus

Fat and bald may not be words you’d usually associate with former-Batman star Christian Bale, but the actor has revealed that he was nearly too fat and too bald to play Moses in ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’.

"We talked on the phone about playing Moses," says Bale in our exclusive interview above.

"Then I went and made ‘American Hustle’ and Rid didn’t see me until after that, but I walked and I looked like Santa Claus with his girth and I’d completely shaved my head. He looked at me and you could just see he was desperately trying to act well."

"He did do a very good job, but you could just see he wanted to go, ‘F*** me, what’s happened? You can’t be Moses! Oh no, what have I done?"

"I knew that afterwards the conversations must have been hysterical."

Bale shaved his head and piled on the pounds to play rotund conman Irving Rosenfeld in David O Russell’s crime caper which came out earlier this year.

He suffered a herniated disc after gaining three stone for the role, but was rewarded with another Oscar nomination for his transformative performance.

Of course, he’s no stranger to extreme weight changes after shedding 60lbs for ‘The Machinist’ and gaining it all back and more to play Bruce Wayne in ‘Batman Begins’ months later.

The actor got back into shape after ‘Hustle’ just in time to play Moses in Ridley Scott’s ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ which is in cinemas on Boxing Day.
