Corey Feldman Slated For 'Insensitive' Joke About Dead Goonies Co-Star Mary Ellen Trainor

Corey Feldman was criticised yesterday over his ‘insensitive’ phrasing in a clumsy tribute to his 'Goonies’ co-star Mary Ellen Trainor, who died this week from pancreatic cancer.

Trainor, who was 62, played Mikey’s mum Irene Walsh, alongside Feldman’s Clarke 'Mouth’ Devereaux.

Taking to Twitter, Feldman joked that there would now be no chance for her to act in the mooted sequel to the classic kid’s movie.

“BREAKING NEWS: A VERY SAD DAY 4 GOONIES FANS! MARY ELLEN WHO PLAYED MIKEYS MOM HAS PASSED AWAY! SUCH A SWEET WOMAN AND A TALENTED ACTOR!,” he wrote.

“THIS IS TERRIBLY SAD NEWS! MY HEART AND PRAYERS R WITH MARYS FAMILY, OUR CAST N CREW, AND THE SADNESS OF THIS LOSS! RIP: MARY ELLEN TRAINER.

“JUST 1 DAY AFTER THE 30th ANNI OF THE FILMS RELEASE! I GUESS THERE WONT B A SEQUEL 4 HER! WE BETTER GET MOVIN B4 WE LOSE ANY1 ELSE!”

After getting flak for the remark from his followers, he later deleted the tweet.

Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm and a close friend of Trainor, confirmed that she had passed away on May 20 at her home in California.

“Mary and I have been close since our days together as college room-mates and she even provided the introduction to Steven Spielberg that jump-started my career,” she said.

“She was a great actress, warm friend and generous spirit.”

As well as 'The Goonies’, Trainor starred in all the 'Lethal Weapon’ movies, 'Scrooged’, 'Die Hard’, 'Romancing The Stone' and 'Ghostbusters II’.

She was also married to director Robert Zemeckis for 20 years, up to 2000.
