Golden Globe-nominated actor Daniel Brühl is the latest star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios announced on Friday afternoon that Brühl, best known for his roles in Rush and Inglourious Basterds, will co-star in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. The film will also include an appearance by Tony Stark/Iron Man and introduce Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther.

Variety, going a step further, reports that Brühl will play a villain in Civil War — and could step into an even larger role in the Doctor Strange movie. (The German actor would make a perfect Baron Mordo: the Transylvanian supervillain and master of the dark mystical arts is supposed to play a big part in the movie.) Brühl has already faced off against one Avenger, Thor star Chris Hemsworth, in the F1 racing drama Rush.

“With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,” Kevin Feige, the Marvel super-producer, said in a statement.

The film will help get Marvel’s Phase Three running, after 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron brings Phase Two to what should be a blockbuster close.

Captain America: Civil War, which will of course return Chris Evans as the patriotic superhero, is scheduled for a May 6, 2016 release.
