Darren Aronofsky To Direct True Serial Killer Story The Good Nurse

Director Darren Aronfsky is reportedly attached to ‘The Good Nurse,’ the true story of one of America’s most prolific serial killers.

The Tracking Board lists the ‘Black Swan’ and ‘The Wrestler’ director as being on board the project, an adaptation of Charles Graeber’s book of the same name, for Lionsgate.

After the large scale, FX-heavy spectacle of his unconventional Biblical epic ‘Noah,’ ‘The Good Nurse’ would seem like a return to more familiar territory for Aronofsky; a more grounded, intimate study of a dark and complex character.

As the synopsis of Graeber’s book tells us, murderer Charles Cullen - arrested in 2003, and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006 - was “quickly dubbed “The Angel of Death” by the media.

"But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

"Cullen’s murderous career in the world’s most trusted profession spanned sixteen years and nine hospitals across New Jersey and Pennsylvania."

If reports are accurate, it would seem likely that ‘The Good Nurse’ will be Aronofsky’s next feature film, though he is also presently working on a TV series adaptation of Margaret Attwood’s ‘MaddAddam’ book trilogy for HBO.
