Dead to Me's Linda Cardellini is set to star in a new murder mystery movie, which is already being described as a female-fronted Clue or Knives Out.

The Scooby-Doo star will pen the script too, alongside writer Kelly Hutchinson, who she met while they were both working on the aforementioned Netflix series. Jennifer Todd (Alice in Wonderland, Memento) is on board to produce.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film – currently named Murder Party, which has already been acquired by Amazon Studios – follows "seven women involved in a pyramid scheme, who meet for a dinner party on a private island.

"When one of the guests gets murdered, the women must figure out who is responsible before they become victims themselves."

The project will mark both Cardellini and Hutchinson's feature writing debut. As actors, the former is perhaps best known for appearing in titles such as Bloodline, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Freaks and Geeks, while the latter has featured in Law & Order and The Blacklist.

Both are up for awards glory for Dead to Me's second season this year; Cardellini, earning a Screen Actors Guild nomination in the Female Actor in a Comedy category, and Hutchinson bagging a WGA nod with showrunner Liz Feldman.

The dramedy centres on Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini), two women who forge an unlikely friendship following the death of Jen's husband. As the duo get closer though, it's soon revealed that Judy had something to do with his demise.

Dead to Me seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now on Netflix.
