Deadpool: Hugh Jackman "Open" To Appearing As Wolverine

Asked whether a Wolverine cameo might be on the cards in the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ movie, Hugh Jackman has admitted he’d consider doing so - and something about his manner makes us think he might know more than he’s letting on.

The question came up when the actor spoke to MTV UK in promotion of his latest movie, Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie,’ and Jackman - being his usual chipper self - had nothing but nice things to say about the long-awaited offshoot of the ‘X-Men’ movies, and its star Ryan Reynolds.

"Ryan’s a really good friend of mine… I’m really happy for him, because he’s a brilliant actor, and he will nail that. Am I dodging your question well?"

Of the characters Wolverine and Deadpool, Jackman noted, “they are definitely enemies in the comics, and they always spark off well together. So I’d be open to that idea.”

Again, watching his mannerisms, plus the way he light-heartedly made a point of ‘dodging the question,’ leads us to assume this certainly isn’t the first time Jackman has spoken about the possibility of appearing in the film from director Tim Miller - and some might say that a rematch between the two mutants is in order, following the disappointing ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’

Still, comic fans may dispute Jackman’s description of the two characters as “enemies.” While they might not be best buddies, given Deadpool’s deliberate obnoxiousness and Wolverine’s general lack of people skills, the two have fought side by side, notably as part of ‘X-Force.’

We might bear in mind that an ‘X-Force’ movie is known to be in the works at 20th Century Fox, although it appears to have been put on the back-burner in favour of ‘Deadpool’ -  but if ‘Deadpool’ proves a hit, it seems fair to assume ‘X-Force’ might become a priority again.

Whether Jackman will still be playing Wolverine by that time is open to question, despite the actor’s recent, again light-hearted remarks that he intends to play Wolverine “until I die.”

As to whether he might pop up in ‘Deadpool;’ if it does happen, we’d assume it’ll be more along the lines of his very brief but very memorable appearance in ‘X-Men: First Class’ - and if ‘Deadpool’ does indeed aim for an R-rating as there are rumours it might, then perhaps this Wolverine cameo might wind up even coarser than that earlier one.

'Chappie' opens this Friday, 6 March 2015, whilst 'Deadpool' lands on 12 February 2016.
