Deadpool Will Be Part Of The X-Men Universe

After finally getting an official release date, it looks as though ‘Deadpool’ will also be part of Fox’s bigger plans as it’s revealed that the quick-witted mutant will tie into their ‘X-Men’ franchise.

In an interview with comicbook.com, ‘X-Men’ producer Simon Kinberg revealed that the ‘Deadpool’ movie won’t be a stand-alone affair, but will instead tie into the larger ‘X-Men’ universe.

“There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the ‘X-Men’ universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that,” he confirmed.

Of course, while the movie has been rumoured for some time, it’s only recently that Fox came out and officially confirmed its existence. And while the more ‘mature’ themes of the comic books might make it tricky to link into the ‘X-Men’ universe, we’re already hearing rumours that the usually foul-mouthed Deadpool could end up in a PG-13 movie.

"So yeah, I guess I would say it’s part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films,” Kindberg added, “some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these ‘X-Men’ movies at Fox."

After the recently leaked test footage of Ryan Reynolds in the red and black costume, it looks as though fan reception has really piqued. And while Fox are no doubt keen to latch onto the positive reactions, I have to wonder quite how Deadpool will fit into this rapidly expanding universe.

The original ‘Deadpool’ script is said to be entirely detached from the main ‘X-Men’ films – despite his appearance in the earlier ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’. And it apparently has a bit of a jibe at the earlier film’s expense.

Of course, the decision to include Deadpool in the ‘X-Men’ universe probably changes all that. But quite how Deadpool will tie into the current ‘X-men’ franchise remains unknown. Will we see Wade Wilson pop up in ‘X-Men Apocalypse’? Perhaps… but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
