Did Captain America: The Winter Soldier Feature A Punisher Cameo?

Did The Punisher, Marvel’s skull-shirted vigilante anti-hero, appear in the ‘Captain America’ sequel earlier this year?

One half of sibling director pair Anthony and Joe Russo certainly hinted so (in a joking fashion) during an interview with ComingSoon.net, speaking about a integral character many fans may not have even noticed.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.

During the film a yellow truck makes two appearances: first slamming into HYDRA agents chasing down Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury and then later in the film to run over Maximiliano Hernández’s Hydra double agent Jasper Sitwell as he’s thrown from a car during the highway chase sequence.

"The man who drives that truck," jokes Joe Russo, explaining he could be the subject a Marvel One Shot short film, "is very highly trained. He thinks on his own terms. He’s got a plan and a very specific skill set."

Sounds a bit like The Punisher to us, but let’s not get carried away, he was joking after all.

The Punisher is however a film property believed to be back with Marvel after the existing deal expired. He’d fit pretty well with the more brutal, quasi-realistic tone of ‘The Winter Soldier’ too, but maybe the series already has more than enough characters.
