Disney’s Frozen Was Stolen, Claims Author

A Kuwaiti author has made a serious claim that Disney’s 2013 smash ‘Frozen’ stole parts of her book and has filed a lawsuit as a show of intent.

Writer Muneefa Abdullah believes the Disney musical steals key parts from her story ‘The Snow Princess’, which appeared in her book, titled ‘New Fairy Tales’, back in 2007; six years before the release of the hugely successful CGI movie.

The federal lawsuit names Disney, as well as the film’s screenwriter and co-director Jen Lee, as the ones Abdullah is suing, but it seems highly unlikely that this will go through its entire court process without either the case being thrown out or a private out-of-court settlement being reached.

Disney have yet to comment on the matter, with Abdullah’s lawyer stating simply, “She wants money.” It’s unclear how much is required, but lawyer  Mohamed Zaher further said, "She’s not looking to harm anybody. She believes ("Frozen”) was her idea and it was stolen.“

The claim is that ‘Frozen’ copied several plot elements, themes and some characters from her children’s story, which if solid, comparable evidence can be produced, then the accuser may have a case.

Directors Jen Lee and Chris Buck have always stated that their narrative is based on Hans Christian Andersen's ‘The Snow Queen’, which seems plausible and believable after seeing the comparisons and concept art.

With ‘Frozen 2′ having recently been announced and a musical edging ever closer, it’s perhaps not the best time for this legal issue to arise, but whatever the outcome, it won’t phase Disney who scooped two Oscars for the $1.3 billion dollar-earning film in 2014.
