Doctor Strange: Rosario Dawson Keen To Reprise Daredevil Role

Rosario Dawson has expressed interest in bringing back her character in the upcoming ‘Daredevil’ Netflix series in other Marvel properties - and there may well be scope for her to do so.

Whilst Dawson’s role in the Netflix series was initially kept a secret (you know Marvel, how they love to build intrigue), it was revealed in October that she would appear as Claire Temple, an old Marvel character who it seems has been reworked into a new version of the Night Nurse, who uses her medical expertise specifically to aid wounded crime-fighters.

Given that Temple was a love interest of Luke Cage, a character also lined up for his own Netflix series, it would seem entirely likely that Dawson may return to the Marvel universe beyond ‘Daredevil.’ Not only that, but the Night Nurse also appeared in acclaimed Doctor Strange storyline ‘The Oath,’ which it has been rumoured the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ movie may borrow from.

Asked what she could reveal about ‘Daredevil’ by MTV News, Dawson smiled, “Can’t talk about it… Not even a little bit. I can tell you that you will find strange people lurking in dark corners of your house if you keep persisting. Marvel is a beast. There’s like a cyanide fill in my tooth.”

On whether she might be up for an appearance in ‘Doctor Strange,’ Dawson replied, “Wouldn’t that be awesome? Just put in a good word for me. Get this trending.”

Being the niece of a comic book artist, and herself the creator of comic book ‘OCT: Occult Crimes Taskforce’ (plus the star of several comic book movies: ‘Josie and the Pussycats,’ the two ‘Sin City’ movies, and DC’s 2009 ‘Wonder Woman’ animated movie), Dawson has long been a known comics fan.

She goes on to argue (quite persuasively) that the TV miniseries format may create something much closer to the comic reader’s experience than the Marvel movies.

"Comics are long-form storytelling, that’s what you don’t get with a film… a film [is like] a short story, it’s an hour and a half or whatever.

“Working with Netflix and being able to make a Marvel miniseries out of ‘Daredevil,’ suddenly you’re like, ‘okay, I get to live with these characters in the way that I’m used to, reading issue per issue per issue, and actually taking that time to really see how the nuances and the depths of it [develop].”

It has already been confirmed that ‘Daredevil’ and the other Netflix shows that will follow it - ‘Jessica Jones,’ ‘Luke Cage,’ ‘Iron Fist,’ and finally crossover mini-series ‘The Defenders’ - will exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much as is the case with ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’ and the upcoming ‘Agent Carter’ TV series.

This would certainly seem to bode well for the Night Nurse’s chances of popping up again in the MCU - and, frankly, it seems unlikely Marvel would cast such a big name actress as Dawson with a view to only hiring her once. Either way, Dawson makes it clear she’s keen to come back.

“I hope I get to do more things with it, because it’s awesome… I love Marvel, they’re great and I want to do tons of things with them. I’d like to be able to fly at some point. I’ve got my aspirations, you know… I’d like to get paid to wear tights.”
