Don Johnson 'Very Upset' About Daughter Dakota Being In 50 Shades Of Grey

Don Johnson is apparently ‘very upset’ about his daughter Dakota being set to appear in the lead role in the movie version of ‘50 Shades Of Grey’.

Though the ‘Miami Vice’ star had previously suggested he was very calm with the whole business of her appearing in the adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel, it appears that it may be a different story behind closed doors.

Screen legend Tippi Hedren, who is the mother of Melanie Griffiths, Don’s ex-wife, and Dakota’s grandmother, has perhaps revealed the truth about what her ex-son-in-law really thinks.

And it’s a far more understandable reaction, given the book’s racy subject matter.

“I understand Don Johnson is very upset about her being in the film. He kind of had the same feeling that I did,” Hitchcock’s former muse told the Hollywood Reporter’s Off The Cuff podcast.

When asked if she’d be heading to the multiplex herself, she said: “I’ve seen the trailer. That’s all I have to watch.”

Griffiths echoed such sentiments, telling IndieWire: “I have not seen Fifty Shades Of Grey. I don’t think I’m going to see it.

“[Dakota] was like, ‘You guys cannot come. There’s no way.’ So we’re not going. I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff. I did see the Room of Pain - I did go in there and check it out.”

Johnson’s own official line on his feelings emerged during an interview on ‘Good Morning Britain’ back in June.

“This is the family business. I am absolutely certain that Dakota will take a piece of material and a character, which a lot of people might imagine could be inappropriate in some ways, and turn it into something spectacular,” he said.

Antonio Banderas, Dakota’s step-father, has also broached the mildly awkward subject himself too.

While doing the promo rounds for ‘The Expendables 3’, he told Yahoo Movies UK: “Y’know, I have done that type of work too, in the past, so who am I to tell my step-daughter ‘don’t do it’, or have some kind of strange morality point to judge her.

“No, I’m pretty sure that she’s going to be fantastic, because she’s very smart and I think she’s a good actress, I genuinely think.

“When the time comes, I will watch it and try to have a judgement that is fair. Because it’s very difficult when you see somebody close to you, to judge that person.”
