Don’t Look Now Remake On Its Way

Horror remakes seem to be ten-a-penny nowadays, but interestingly it’s been revealed that ‘Don’t Look Now’ is the latest to get the go ahead.

The 1973 classic, directed by Nicolas Roeg and starring Donald Sutherland, is set to get a remake courtesy of Studio Canal and under the producing eyes of Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman (of The Picture Company).

The original story is a grim tale of a couple grieving after the tragic death of their young daughter. While in Venice, they meet two elderly sisters, one whom is a psychic, and issue a warning to them from beyond their world.

At present there’s no director, writer, or cast attached to the production. While Studio Canal and producers are already involved, the hope is to now find a studio that’ll take the film and then find a suitable writer.

‘Don’t Look Now’ is regarded as somewhat notorious due to the graphic nature of some of its scenes, and is regarded as a powerful film that incorporates horror, thriller, and drama elements into its narrative.

It’s unlikely that, should this reimagining get a big release, there will be the same level of explicit sexual content as per the 70s version, where many believed depicted its stars Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie actually having sex.

Due to strict BBFC (and other governing body) regulations now, it’s highly unlikely that this version will include the graphic scenes of the original; instead, it’ll no doubt tone down any shocking content so it’s accessible to the mainstream.

With the UK release of the original rated 15 (but R in the US), it’s probable that this will not raise its gamer to an 18 over here. At the other end of the scale, it’s doubtful whether the film will be cut right down to warrant the dreaded 12a, but let’s not think about that just yet…
