Downton’s Dan Stevens: Movie Shower Scene Was ‘Amusing’

Actor Dan Stevens has been explaining how he turned from floppy-haired Downton Abbey fop into a lean, mean Hollywood star.

The British thesp stars in US thriller ‘The Guest’ and in our exclusive clip (which you can watch above), he has some tips for turning yourself into leading man material.

Stevens also admitted that he shaved his chest for a scene that has inspired a host of internet memes, in which his character David comes out of the shower clad in a very small towel.

“We thought it would be amusing,” Stevens tells Yahoo. “It’s funny how that particular scene has become objectified…somebody’s cut together a nice sequence of Maggie Smith and various Downton cast members looking very shocked at David coming out of the shower, which is nice.”

‘The Guest’ is something of a departure for the actor. He plays a mysterious ex-soldier who shows up at a house claiming to be the best friend of the family’s late son, who died fighting in the Middle East. But things are not exactly what they seem.

Playing David also required an American accent and some impressive gunplay.

“I spent quite a lot of time in a firing range last summer as well as in a martial arts studio and various gyms, all of these places quite unfamiliar to me historically,” he says.

‘The Guest’ is in cinemas now.
